Bayside Sea Scout Group

Our Venturer section is for anybody regardless of previous Scouting experience as long as you are aged 15-18 and interested in building skills for and undertaking adventurous activities from day trips to multi day expeditions in remote areas. The Venturer motto is ‘Look Wide’ and that encapsulates what we are trying to achieve. Venturers form project patrols to plan and deliver bigger activities and operate as a whole section for much of the rest of the time.

Venturers over this year and the past few years have:

• Planned, raised funds for and hiked the Kokoda track in PNG

• Participated in Noosa Venture (imagine 400 Venturers from all over the State gathering for a weekend of adventure in Noosa)

• Participated in RoVenture, Brisbane South Region Venturer Camp and Fort Lytton District Venturer Camp where they’ve rafted, canoed, camped, enjoyed campfires, biked, orienteered, stacked crates, zip lined and more

• Learned how to sea kayak including rolling

• Planned and delivered unsupported short overnight and longer multi-day sea kayak camping expeditions around Moreton Bay

• Driven dirt go-karts

• Learned how to chop wood

• Practiced cooking indoors and out

• Orienteered during the day time on foot and on mountain bikes, and at night in forests

• Mountain biked at night

• Made movies and clay sculptures

• Practiced their presentation and communication skills

• Sausage sizzled to raise funds

• Developed basic water rescue skills

• Practiced survival skills – fire building, water purification and shelter

• Built a range of pioneering structures

And so much more!

Each week, Venturers deliver a week night program developed by themselves with leader support. Weekends are where single day or multi day adventurous activities take place – again depending on what the Venturers themselves want do – enabled and supported by our leaders. Strong friendships and bonds form as Venturers practice independent Scouting with skills they develop and through leader support. Together, Venturers and leaders can work to deliver adventurous activity experiences that will be remembered for the rest of their lives. Join, think big and look wide!
